The forthcoming WEEE directive is aimed at encouraging reuse and recycling and minimising the negative environmental aspects of disposal. Putting electronic waste and fluorescent tubes into landfill will no longer be an option under the 'Special Waste Regulations' and the WEEE directive. Currently about 60 million tubes per year are sent to landfill. Recycling has a number of benefits: - Minimises health and safety risks to staff Improves site housekeeping Removes mercury from landfill Demonstrates best environmental practice Recovers materials which would otherwise be lost Material Collection and Handling Collections can be arranged either via our website or by telephone. Mutually convenient collection dates will be agreed at commencement of our agreement. All relevant paperwork will be supplied. (consignment note) Suitable containers for storage and transport are provided free of charge.
Recycling Fluorescent tube recycling Tubes and lamps are safely broken into steel 205 litre drums using the patented TubeEater. This is fitted with a vacuum pump, which draws air through a 3-stage filter to capture dust particles and neutralise the potentially harmful mercury vapour. The drums full of broken lamps are then processed through a state of the art lamp recycling plant that further crushes, cleans and separates the different material fractions under vacuum. The output is clean glass, aluminium end caps, steel clips and mercury contaminated powder. Under separate contract the mercury is then distilled out of the powder to produce high purity metallic mercury and inert mineral rich clay. Finally the glass, aluminium, steel, mercury and powder are all recycled back to new products. This process achieves an overall recycling rate of circa 97%, as the only wasted materials are small amounts of glue, plastic and the small electrodes in the end caps. General WEEE recycling
All WEEE equipment is disposed of safely by licenced operatives in accordance with current legislation. Pricing CRN Environmental offer a highly competitive pricing structure. We will tailor our solutions to meet the needs of your business.
